Louisiana State Requirements

eLearning Academy is approved by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) as a nonpublic school. All students enrolled in Level 2 or Level 3 services are considered enrolled in a private school. Level 2 and Level 3 students do not need to register as homeschoolers in Louisiana.

The information below is for students living in Louisiana. It is your responsibility as a parent to register with the state each year as described below or on the HSLDA website.

For Level 1 elementary students living in Louisiana, you must register with the state each year. Please register with the Louisiana Department of Education online. You will receive an immediate confirmation. We suggest the registered non­approved private school option for elementary students. For Level 1 high school students living in Louisiana, you need to register as home study students to preserve their eligibility for TOPS. Please register with the Louisiana State Department of Education online. High school students must be enrolled in the home study program for their junior and senior years to qualify for TOPS. Please review the HSLDA Louisiana Summary for ACT score requirements for the various awards. Please review the state Department of Education website for more information on this program. NOTE: The Louisiana Legislature recently passed a law allowing homeschool families to deduct the cost of homeschool materials on their state income taxes. To do so, you must register for the Home Study Program, which is explained in the section for high school students.

If you are withdrawing from a Louisiana public school, or if your child attended a Louisiana public school the year before enrolling with us, you must provide a written notification of enrollment to the public school the child attended within 10 days of enrollment. This notification must include the student’s legal name, date of birth, gender and race. Please include a request for the student’s transcripts with the notification.
